Post-Brexit Ireland

After Brexit, UK nationals living in Ireland will continue to enjoy the same rights, privileges and protections as before, including free travel, access to education, healthcare and social services, and the ability to work and reside in Ireland without any additional documentation. However, non-EEA family members of UK nationals may need to take separate measures to exercise their rights to reside in Ireland under the EU Free Movement Directive. Such family members, who hold a valid Irish Resident Permit (IRP) on that basis, will be required to exchange their current IRP for a new one by applying online through the renewal system. The Department of Justice will continue to process applications received from non-EEA family members of UK nationals resident in Ireland even if a decision is not made until after Brexit. UK nationals who come to Ireland after Brexit will also continue to enjoy their rights under the Common Travel Area, while a new scheme will be introduced for them to bring their non-EEA family members to Ireland.
